Chachapoyas is the capital of the department of Amazonas, located inPeru, at the edge of cloud forest and 1,191 km (740 miles) from Lima. It is bordered on the north by Ecuador; the south by the departments of San Martín and La Libertad; on the east by Loreto; and west by Cajamarca.
Chachapoyas is a small city of large manor houses, with tiled roofs and expansive central patios, ringed by orchards, gardens and ornate balconies, all elements characteristic of the city’s colonial Spanish influence.
Chachapoyas counts among its principal attractions important archaeological remains, stunning scenery, villages that preserve their indigenous culture, and adrenaline-inducing outdoor adventures and extreme sports—only a few of the reasons why Chachapoyas and the Amazonas region are ideal for a wide range of tourist activities.

Ten years crisscrossing Peru, producing 240 TV programs on diverse topics. A journalist and writer, for nearly a decade he has directed and hosted the TV program Tiempo de Viaje, in which he travels throughout Peru (and occasionally other countries), documenting natural, historical and human scenes infrequently visited by conventional tourism. His perspective is not that of a tourist, but of a traveler, who immerses himself in what he finds and shies away from nothing in his reporting. He is also the author and/or publisher of an extensive series of books about Peruvian culture. |
