Festivities
February & March: In allthe villages, carnaval (pre-Lenten carnival) is celebrated, very much in the style of the jungle, with an overflow of dance, drinking, and mischievious tossing of water balloons.

Semana Santa (Easter Week): Lovely Easter displays are created in each of the churches in Chachapoyas, and the ambience is one of religious reflection and meditation. Religious processions and demonstrations of faith are enacted across the region.

03 May: The traditional Festival of the Cross, with festivities in each of the region’s principal cities and villages.

29 July: The Festival of the Patron Saint Virgen del Carmen, celebrated in the district of Leymebamba, in the province of Chachapoyas.

06 June: The Anniversary of the Battle of HigosUrco, which commemorates the heroic act that liberated Chachapoyas en route to Peruvian Independence in 1821.

15 August: The Festival of the Patron Saint VirgenAsunta, realized with the participation of virtually the entire populace. It thrives with an abundance of religious, cultural, leisure and social activities

05 September: Anniversary of the Founding of Chachapoyas. Also celebrated is the Festival of the Patron Saint San Nicolás, in Rodríguez de Mendoza, and Festival of the Patron Saint Lord of Gualamita in Lamud.
