Chachapoyas in 1 day
With a complete single day in the city, travelers are virtually obligated to visit the spectacular citadel of Kuélap, one of the finest set of pre-Inca ruins in Peru.
Chachapoyas in 2 days
After the first day’s visit to Kuélap, it’s advisable to travel to Gocta Falls, claimed as the third-highest free-falling waterfall in the world. En route (a 2-3 hour trek through cloud forest) to the lagoon formed at the base of the waterfall, visitors will have the chance to appreciate the Andean Cock of the Rock (Gallito de lasRocas), the national bird of Peru.
Chachapoyas in 3 days
On the 3rd day, a good idea (especially for those who enjoy walking) is to visit the Mausoleos de Revash, a Chachapoya funerary site consisting of colorful, house-like structures clinging to the edge of a cliff. After a moderately difficult walk of 3 hours, finish the day at the Museo de las Momias de Leymebamba, a fascinating museum containing more than 200 well preserved mummies from Revash and tombs near Laguna de los Cóndores.

Ten years crisscrossing Peru, producing 240 TV programs on diverse topics. A journalist and writer, for nearly a decade he has directed and hosted the TV program Tiempo de Viaje, in which he travels throughout Peru (and occasionally other countries), documenting natural, historical and human scenes infrequently visited by conventional tourism. His perspective is not that of a tourist, but of a traveler, who immerses himself in what he finds and shies away from nothing in his reporting. He is also the author and/or publisher of an extensive series of books about Peruvian culture. |
