Arequipa (159 km / 100 miles)
Private cars and taxis travel from Colca to Arequipa in under 3 hours, and in terms of comfort, that’s certainly the best way to go (Casa Andina can arrange transport from its hotel in Colca to the hotels in Arequipa – for more information write us to travel@casa-andina.com). Public buses (Reyna or Cristo Rey) also travel to Arequipa (in about 4 hr.). Asphalting of the entire highway has recently been completed from Arequipa to Chivay, so the journey is much less onerous than it used to be.
Puno (319 km / 200 miles)
Private cars and taxis make the trip from Colca to Puno in under 5 hours (Casa Andina can arrange transport from its hotel in Colca to the hotels in Puno – for more information you can write us to travel@casa-andina.com). There is also a daily shared service from Chivay to Puno.

A journalist and writer, for nearly a decade he has directed and hosted the TV program Tiempo de Viaje, in which he travels throughout Peru (and occasionally other countries), documenting natural, historical and human scenes infrequently visited by conventional tourism. His perspective is not that of a tourist, but of a traveler, who immerses himself in what he finds and shies away from nothing in his reporting. He is also the author and/or publisher of an extensive series of books about Peruvian culture. |
